PCID Forum 2026: Connecting Portugal and Denmark through Research, Innovation and Science Diplomacy
On 10 September 2026, SPOT Nordic welcomed representatives from government, academia, research institutions and European organisations to Copenhagen Business School (CBS) for the PCID Forum 2026 – Portugal–Denmark Forum on Science, Innovation and Diplomacy.
The Forum marked an important milestone for the PCID – Portugal–Denmark: Science, Innovation and Diplomacyproject, with the presentation and launch of its report examining the Portuguese and Danish research and innovation systems.
The event opened with remarks by Dr Emídio Sousa, Portuguese Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, followed by the presentation of the report by David Pereira de Castro, President of SPOT Nordic, and Daniela Murteira.
About the PCID Report
The PCID Report – Portugal and Denmark: Research, Innovation and Diplomacy in a Shared European Spaceprovides a comparative analysis of the Portuguese and Danish research and innovation systems, exploring how both countries organise, fund and connect research, innovation, industry and public policy.
Developed through a combination of data analysis and engagement with stakeholders from government, academia, research institutions, funding organisations, industry and the Portuguese scientific diaspora, the report goes beyond a comparison of traditional indicators.
It examines the institutional models, governance structures and policy approaches that shape each ecosystem, looking at how knowledge is transformed into innovation and societal and economic impact.
By identifying differences, common challenges and opportunities for mutual learning, the report aims to provide a foundation for stronger cooperation between Portugal and Denmark, while highlighting the role of science diplomacy and international networks in connecting research and innovation ecosystems across Europe.
Bringing the discussion to the European level
Following the presentation of the report, the Forum continued with the roundtable “European Science Diplomacy Network”, bringing together Portuguese, Danish and European perspectives on the role of international networks in strengthening connections between research, policy and innovation.
The discussion was followed by a networking session, providing speakers and participants with an opportunity to exchange perspectives, establish new contacts and build connections across institutions and countries.
