David Pereira de Castro, co-founder of SPOT Nordic in 2020 and President of the association since 2022, has been appointed Young Advisor of the Portuguese Diaspora Council during its 10th Annual Meeting in Cascais, Portugal.
The Portuguese Diaspora Council was established in 2012 by a group of high-profile Portuguese living abroad, with the mission of mobilizing diaspora talent to strengthen Portugal’s global image, credibility, and influence.
The event was attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, along with various figures from Portugal’s political and institutional landscape. Under the theme “The Diaspora as Human Capital”, discussions focused on the role of key Portuguese soft skills, such as empathy, adaptability, and relational intelligence, in enhancing Portugal’s international standing.
David Pereira de Castro is a researcher in International Political Economy at Copenhagen Business School and divides his time between Portugal and the Nordic countries, leading projects in scientific collaboration, strategic consulting, and knowledge diplomacy.

As president of SPOT Nordic, he has played an active role in the strategic repositioning of the association as a non-profit, non-governmental organization and a driving force for scientific diplomacy between Portugal and the Nordic countries.
This appointment reinforces SPOT Nordic’s role in promoting science, international cooperation, and Portugal’s strategic representation in Northern Europe.
