SPOT Nordic conducted an institutional visit to Danish Technological Institute (DTI), in Denmark.
The association was represented by David Pereira de Castro (President) and Rita Valinhas (Executive Assistant and Project Coordinator).
The visit began with a technical tour of the institute’s facilities, providing direct contact with cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure applied in areas such as:
Biomass valorization;
Production of alternative proteins;
Development of sustainable and biodegradable packaging;
Technologies such as high-pressure homogenization, ceramic filtration, centrifugation, freeze drying, and spray drying.

These technical capabilities position DTI as a relevant partner for Portuguese and Nordic companies and research centers interested in developing sustainable and scalable products in the bioeconomy domain. The following working meeting included Beatriz Chambel, Consultant at DTI’s Biosolutions unit.
The meeting focused on identifying opportunities for:
Joint applications for European research and innovation projects as strategic partners (EUROSTARS);
Joint applications to the Danish GUDP program (Green Development and Demonstration Programme);
Tailored partnerships based on DTI’s specialized services and the specific needs of Portuguese and Nordic companies operating in the agri-food and biotechnology sectors.
This visit is part of the “From Science to Industry” project, a strategic SPOT Nordic initiative that aims to foster collaboration between startups, universities, institutes, and companies in the Nordic countries and Portugal. The goal is to build bridges that enhance the transfer of scientific knowledge into economically valuable solutions, promoting the co-creation of commercially relevant innovation.
Through this approach, SPOT Nordic strengthens its role as a facilitator of transnational synergies, promoting:
Scientific Diplomacy: matchmaking, project management, and knowledge dissemination;
Economic Diplomacy: support for internationalization, innovation exploration, and business model development.

This integrated model of dual diplomacy (scientific and economic) fulfills SPOT Nordic’s mission: to transform research into sustainable and competitive solutions, in service of collaboration between Portugal and the Nordic countries.
