SPOT Nordic celebrated a historic moment yesterday with the launch of its Scientific Council, hosted at the residence of the Ambassador of Portugal to Sweden, Dr. Sara Martins. This event marks a significant step forward in promoting scientific diplomacy between Portugal and the Nordic countries, strengthening bilateral relations and creating new opportunities for future collaborations.

In the morning, members of the SPOT Nordic Board participated in working meetings with the Portuguese Embassy in Sweden and the AICEP Delegation. These meetings focused on planning activities that will continue to consolidate SPOT Nordic’s presence in Sweden, aiming to strengthen ties with the Portuguese scientific and technological community in the region.

The Scientific Council of SPOT Nordic is primarily tasked with promoting Portuguese science in the Nordic countries, facilitating the creation of partnerships and the exchange of knowledge between researchers, universities, and companies from both regions. This council serves as a strategic platform that supports joint research and innovation projects, while also enhancing the visibility of Portuguese science and technology in the Nordic region.

The creation of this Council is crucial to strengthening scientific diplomacy, a concept that uses science as a tool to bring nations closer together and foster international collaborations. Additionally, the Council plays a vital role in knowledge transfer between academia and industry, contributing to the development of technological innovations that benefit both Portugal and the Nordic countries.
One of the Council’s key objectives is to promote the signing of a protocol with the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), aimed at reinforcing support for Portuguese researchers in the Nordic region. This protocol will enable the funding of initiatives and projects that foster scientific and technological cooperation between Portugal and the Nordic countries, including research grants and other innovation incentives.

We thank the Ambassador for her warm welcome and all participants for enriching the event with their ideas and enthusiasm. Together, we discussed strategies to promote innovation and international cooperation in science and technology.
The SPOT Nordic Scientific Council will be a central pillar in this mission, supporting the efforts of the scientific community to enhance the visibility of Portuguese science in the Nordic countries.
We look forward to the future and remain committed to creating new partnerships and promoting knowledge.
