Meet the Speakers - March 18th Event

SPOT Nordic's event on ‘Portuguese Entrepreneurship in the Nordics’ will be held on 18 March, starting at 2pm at the Lydens Hub, Gammel Kongevej 11, in Copenhagen.


With this event we intend to reactivate the physical events organised by the association and promote interaction between Portuguese entrepreneurs living in the Nordic countries as well as Portuguese people interested in the topic.

Speakers Biography


Pedro Costa - CEO Auricle


Pedro Costa founded Auricle four years ago with the aim of changing the general perception of products related to bone conduction and to apply high-quality bone conduction technology in products for the masses. Pedro was born with a hearing loss and has been a multi-instrumentalist musician throughout his life, leading him down a path where he initially became an acoustic engineer and now an entrepreneur - with the ambition of democratizing and destigmatizing bone conduction audio and hearing technology.

Cristiana Pires - CEO Asgard Therapeutics


Cristiana Pires is the Co-Founder and CEO of Asgard Therapeutics, a Swedish biotechnology company that develops innovative cancer immunotherapies based on cell reprogramming technologies.


Cristiana graduated in pharmaceutical sciences and completed her PhD at NOVA Medical School - Faculdade de Ciências Médicas in Lisbon, Portugal. During her PhD, she focused on research into direct reprogramming to generate retinal pigmented epithelial cells for cell replacement therapy applications. Subsequently, she did her post-doc at Lund University in Sweden, establishing direct cell reprogramming strategies to generate dendritic cells.


Passionate about the idea of applying her research work in a practical context, she started the spin-off Asgard Therapeutics in December 2018 together with Filipe Pereira and Fábio Rosa. As CEO, she has attracted more than 1.5 million euros in funding, including the Horizon 2020 SME instrument and Eurostars grants, as well as an initial investment of 6 million euros co-led by Novo Holdings (DK), Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund (DE) and Industrifonden (SE).

José Mata - Lecturer Copenhagen Business School


José Mata is the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Professor of Entrepreneurship at Copenhagen Business School. He holds a PhD in Business Economics from the University of Minho. Before joining CBS, he taught at HEC Lausanne, the Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon and the University of Lisbon.


He has also worked at the Bank of Portugal and was President of Portugal's National Statistics Institute.


A sua investigação centram-se na dinâmica dos mercados e nas estratégias das empresas. Com particular foco em investigação orientada para atividades relacionadas com Empreendedorismo, Estratégia e Negócios Internacionais. Tem um registo de várias publicações em importantes jornais internacionais, como American Economic Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Research Policy ou Strategic Management Journal.

His research centres on market dynamics and company strategies. With a particular focus on research orientated towards activities related to Entrepreneurship, Strategy and International Business. He has a record of several publications in important international journals, such as American Economic Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Research Policy or Strategic Management Journal.

Vera Rocha - Associate Teacher at Copenhagen Business School


Vera Rocha is Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Copenhagen Business School. Having completed her PhD in Economics at the Universidade of Porto, she decided to pursue her academic career in Copenhagen, where she has been working since the end of 2014. Her research is mostly dedicated to studying the antecedents and consequences of careers in entrepreneurship, inequalities in the labour market, and issues related to strategic human capital, using quantitative methods.

Maria Henriques de Jesus - Senior Associate BioInnovation Institute


Maria Henriques de Jesus is a Senior Associate in Planetary Health at the BioInnovation Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark. Maria has also worked at the Novo Nordisk Foundation and as a Biotechnology Specialist in Business Development at Octarine.


She completed her PhD in Synthetic Biology and Technology at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen and graduated in Biology - Molecular Biology and Genetics at the University of Lisbon.


Maria works with the development and execution of the Venture Lab. The Venture Lab programme combines business acceleration, scientific development and team building. During the programme, start-ups go through important incubation processes to obtain initial proof of concept and receive valuable help in drawing up a business plan and assembling a team that will enable them to progress quickly towards the market.

During this event we will have the opportunity to talk about some success stories, exchange ideas about the challenges experienced along the way and hear the views of academics specialising in various aspects of entrepreneurship. SPOT Nordic's intention is to raise awareness of Nordic companies led and founded by Portuguese people, promoting the expansion of the network of contacts and continuing to publicise the Association's work.


After the speeches, there will also be a fun networking moment between 5pm and 7pm with drinks and snacks.


Registration for the event is compulsory. It is free for members and costs 50DKK for non-members. As part of the current campaign, all new members registered by 15 March will be able to enjoy the event for free and get a 35% membership discount by using the coupon ‘FIRST MEMBER’ when registering.
