Nuno Grande PhD Scholarship – Applications Open

In tribute to the esteemed physician, researcher, and professor who founded the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) and was connected to the BIAL Foundation for over 20 years, the family of Professor Nuno Grande, ICBAS, and the BIAL Foundation established the Nuno Grande PhD Scholarship in 2022.

Valued at €25,000 each, the Nuno Grande PhD Scholarship was created to support research in the field of Fundamental Health Sciences, with the goal of promoting the acquisition of advanced academic competencies for the teaching of Medicine by medical graduates involved in education. Initially, the scholarship supported candidates enrolled in the PhD Program in Medical Sciences at ICBAS.

In its 4th edition, the Nuno Grande Scholarship will be:

• Administered by the BIAL Foundation

• Open to candidates nationwide

• Awarding 3 scholarships of €25,000 each, totaling €75,000 per edition

• Portuguese or international citizens

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree holders in Medicine

• Contributors to medical education at any Portuguese medical school

• Enrolled in a PhD program in Fundamental Health Sciences at a Portuguese university
