Renewal of the SPOT Nordic – FCT Protocol: Strengthening Science Diplomacy between Portugal and the Nordic Countries

SPOT Nordic has renewed its collaboration protocol with the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) for 2025-2026, to strengthen scientific diplomacy between Portugal and the Nordic countries.


What we achieved since 2024:


  • Mapping Portuguese researchers across the Nordics

  • Awarding research grants

  • Organizing scientific diplomacy events with the Portuguese Embassies in the Nordic countries

  • Active role in GraPE 2024

  • First Internship in Scientific Diplomacy

  • First Annual Meeting of the Scientific Council on site, happening in Copenhagen


These actions highlight the importance and impact of the protocol in providing direct support to the Portuguese scientific community in the Nordic region.



What the 2025 Protocol Brings


The new agreement, signed by FCT President Madalena Alves and SPOT Nordic President David Pereira de Castro, renews the annual commitment to science diplomacy activities:

Since its foundation in 2020, SPOT Nordic has promoted the integration, visibility, and influence of Portuguese researchers and professionals in the Nordic countries. The renewal of this protocol with FCT confirms the relevance of this work and projects a future of deeper scientific, diplomatic, and institutional cooperation between Portugal and the Nordic region.
