SPOT Nordic officially joins the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance

SPOT Nordic is proud to announce its official membership of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance, marking an important milestone in its mission to strengthen scientific cooperation, innovation and knowledge-based collaboration between Portugal and the Nordic countries.

The membership was ratified during the Alliance’s General Assembly, held on 22 June 2026, making SPOT Nordic one of approximately 30 new organisations welcomed in the largest membership expansion in the Alliance’s history. This growth reflects the increasing recognition of science diplomacy as a strategic instrument for addressing global challenges and deepening international cooperation.

The EU Science Diplomacy Alliance brings together universities, research organisations, foundations, public institutions and international networks committed to strengthening the role of science in policymaking at both the European and global levels. By joining this community, SPOT Nordic will contribute its experience in building connections between researchers, innovators, companies and public institutions, while actively participating in collaborative initiatives that strengthen the European science diplomacy ecosystem.

Since its foundation, SPOT Nordic has worked to bring Portugal and the Nordic countries closer together through initiatives that promote scientific collaboration, innovation, talent mobility and international partnerships. More recently, the organisation has also strengthened its work in the field of science diplomacy, fostering dialogue between academia, industry and policymakers while contributing to broader discussions on the future of research and innovation ecosystems.

Joining the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance represents a natural next step in this journey. This membership opens new opportunities to collaborate with some of Europe’s leading organisations, participate in strategic discussions, develop joint initiatives and help shape the future of science diplomacy in Europe.
