SPOT Nordic Celebrates Portugal Day in the Nordic Countries

On June 10th, SPOT Nordic took part in the celebrations of Portugal Day, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities, with active representation in both Sweden and Denmark. This participation reinforces our association’s commitment to the values of representation, growth, and promotion of the highly qualified Portuguese community in the Nordic countries.

In Sweden, Duarte Ferreira, President of the Scientific Council, and Ana Catarina Silva, Vice-President, attended the commemorations organized by the Portuguese Embassy in Stockholm, held at the Historiska Museet. The event featured a musical program by renowned pianist Mário Laginha.

In Denmark, The celebration took place at the Official Residence of the Portuguese Ambassador, a symbolic location where SPOT Nordic was officially launched. The event was attended by members Rita Valinhas (Secretary), Sandra Carapeto (Board Member), Sérgio Dias (Treasurer), and Joana Lobo Vicente (Scientific Council Coordinator).

Portugal and the Nordic countries, and to foster dialogue with diplomatic entities, universities, and companies. Being present at these events allowed the association to represent the interests of Portuguese researchers and professionals in the region, while also strengthening ties with local communities and encouraging new opportunities for collaboration. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of highly qualified Portuguese residents in the Nordic countries, underlining the importance of SPOT Nordic as a platform connecting science, knowledge, and diplomacy. This work aligns with the association’s mission to promote the visibility of Portuguese science and technology, support access to research in the Nordic region, and stimulate joint knowledge-transfer projects.

SPOT Nordic will continue to work towards strengthening its network and ensuring that Portuguese people in the Nordic countries have an active and respected voice. Celebrating Portugal Day is more than a symbolic moment — it is a living testament to the contribution of our community to Portugal’s prestige beyond its borders.
