SPOT Nordic Expansion Process

SPOT Nordic concluded its expansion process following the appointment of the national representative in Iceland, during the Board meeting on December 7, 2022.

Throughout these two years of SPOT Nordic's existence, a series of activities were promoted that enabled an association registered in Denmark, during a notably turbulent and demanding period resulting from the global pandemic we experienced, to successfully ensure its expansion into three more countries within the Nordic region.

The ability to quickly expand the organization’s presence with the emergence of national representatives in countries such as Finland, Norway, and Sweden allowed for the achievement of one of the first objectives defined by SPOT Nordic: to represent and defend the interests of Portuguese university students, researchers, and qualified professionals in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Iceland, strengthening their integration and visibility in Nordic society.

National Representatives are appointed by the Board and must represent the countries within the geographic scope of the Association. National representation is not cumulative with the role of President of the Board. The President’s country of residence is therefore excluded from the need to appoint a representative.

In the founding year, 2020, national representatives were appointed in Sweden and Norway. In 2021, in Finland. In 2022, we completed the expansion process and are now represented in Iceland—one of the objectives of the 2022–2024 term.

According to the Statutes, national representation for the country of residence of the President of the Board falls to the President themself, who refrains from publicly promoting their representative role. As such, Denmark is not included in this list during the current term.

SPOT Nordic is headquartered in Denmark and relies on the work of national representatives in the remaining Nordic countries to ensure connection among all Portuguese graduates, embassies and consulates, institutions, and associations.
