Key Discussion Points

The meeting addressed several critical areas, focusing on the role of research in driving economic development beyond the traditional academic environment. These discussions are essential as we strive to bridge the gap between academic research and its practical applications across various industries. The main points included:

  1. Building Strong Research Partnerships

  2. Collaborating with industries to apply research innovations aimed at economic growth

  3. Increasing the visibility and influence of Portuguese researchers in the Nordic countries

  4. Research Funding for Economic Growth

  5. Developing new funding mechanisms to support research initiatives that drive economic progress

  6. Promoting joint projects that facilitate knowledge transfer and innovation

  7. Enhancing International Scientific Cooperation

  8. Strengthening ties between Portugal and the Nordic countries to foster mutual knowledge exchange

  9. Supporting efforts by the national scientific community to raise the visibility of Portuguese science and technology

Recent Achievements and Future Goals

As part of the meeting, we had the opportunity to present SPOT Nordic’s recent accomplishments. Founded in January 2020 at the Residence of the Portuguese Embassy in Denmark, our association has grown significantly, now representing over 40 mapped Portuguese researchers in the Nordic countries.

Key achievements include:

  • Signing a funding protocol with FCT in May 2024.

  • Launching the “Researcher of the Year” Award with a prize of €4,000.

  • Establishing two Nordic Fellowships under the LusoNordic Connect Program, each worth €6,000.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to promoting the transfer of knowledge from academia to industry, and to strengthening the ties between Portuguese researchers in the Nordic countries and Portugal.
